Studio Carolina Izzo – Auckland, officially opened in Auckland 7 August. It was open-house all day, with many visitors coming from all over New Zealand to join us for a very celebratory time. We were privileged to have a Studio blessing by Te Waari Carkeek from Te Papa Tongarewa. Te Waari has a painting of one of his ancestors with us at the studio, the presence of this taonga made the ceremony even more special. After lunch Carmelo Barbarello, the Italian Ambassador, cut the ribbon to the lab and gave a speech of support from the Italian community. We also had a speech from art curator, Lesleigh Salinger and then Carolina gave us all an insight into her philosophy about the importance of art and heritage conservation. Maria and Riccardo from the Wellington Studio were here, as was Stefano from Christchurch, but Paola from Christchurch was unable to be with us – we missed her. Along with artists, art dealers, auctioneers, patrons, and collectors, we were very well supported by family and friends. It was a great way to begin.
